West Bengal Swearing-In Highlights: Suvendu Adhikari & 5 Ministers Take Oath As First-Ever BJP Govt Forms In Bengal

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took oath as West Bengal’s chief minister on Saturday. Senior BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik were among the ministers sworn in. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and several BJP chief ministers attended the ceremony.

Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, describing the day as a celebration of Bengali language, culture and heritage. In a post on X, Banerjee said Tagore’s philosophy continues to guide humanity with its message of unity and harmony beyond aggressive nationalism. She highlighted the Nobel laureate’s vision of universal brotherhood and said his ideals and creative genius continue to inspire people across the world.

PM Modi felicitates and takes blessings of Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the most senior workers of the BJP in West Bengal. In 1952, Makhanlal Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while accompanying Syama Prasad Mukherjee during the movement to hoist the Indian tricolour there.

Thousands of BJP supporters from across the country and abroad, including from north Bengal and neighbouring states such as Jharkhand, poured into Kolkata on Saturday to witness the oath-taking ceremony of the first BJP government in West Bengal, turning the Brigade Parade Grounds into a sea of saffron.

Security was tightened across key locations in Kolkata on Saturday ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the first BJP government in West Bengal, including at the residence of chief minister-designate Suvendu Adhikari, Brigade Parade Grounds and outside former CM Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence.

Suvendu Adhikari was on Friday unanimously elected the BJP legislative party leader at a meeting of newly elected MLAs in the presence of Amit Shah, paving the way for him to become Bengal’s ninth chief minister. He is set to take oath shortly at the Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Kolkata ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari as the chief minister of West Bengal at the Brigade Parade Ground.
