West Bengal News: Since assuming the post of Chief Minister of Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, on his first official district visit, arrived in Diamond Harbour, South 24 Parganas, on Saturday, a district long considered the stronghold of Abhishek Banerjee, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee's nephew.

Adhikari, while addressing a public meeting ahead of the May 21 re-poll in the Falta Assembly constituency under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, asked in a filmy style, "Where is Pushpa?"

What Is 'Pushpa' Controversy?

Suvendu asked the gathering where is Pushpa, referring to Jahangir Khan, who came into the limelight by calling himself Pushpa, a character in the 2021 Bollywood movie 'Pushpa'.

In his first public meeting in support of the BJP candidate in Falta after becoming Chief Minister, Suvendu targeted Jahangir Khan, a Trinamool candidate and controversial local leader who had made headlines during the assembly elections by comparing himself to the character of Pushpa.

Describing Jahangir as a declared criminal, Suvendu warned, "It is now my responsibility to take care of the so-called Pushpa after the elections are over. I will personally handle his case. All the goons will be put behind bars as soon as the elections in Falta are over."

Jahangir's comment came at a time when Ajay Pal Sharma, a prominent Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer appointed by the Election Commission as a police observer in Bengal, was being compared to the police officer from the film Singham.

In a viral video, Ajay Pal Sharma was seen warning Jahangir Khan's family. Sharma was heard saying, "If his people continue to threaten, we will deal with them properly. Then don't cry."

In response, Jahangir Khan said, "If you are Singham, then I am Pushpa. I will not bow down." This exchange between the two was widely discussed.

It is known that the Election Commission had cancelled the elections held in Falta on April 29 following widespread irregularities, allegations of EVM tampering and voter intimidation.
