Suvendu Adhikari Net Worth: Suvendu Adhikari was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Friday, clearing the path for him to become the next chief minister of West Bengal.
The announcement followed a meeting of newly elected MLAs in Kolkata, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and the BJP's state unit chief, Samik Bhattacharya.
Suvendu Adhikari to Take Oath As West Bengal CM On May 9
Adhikari is set to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9 at the Parade Ground in Kolkata. The high-profile ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other Union ministers.
Chief Ministers from various NDA-governed states are also expected to be present to attend the ceremony.
Who Is Suvendu Adhikari? Early Life And Career
Adhikari was born in Karkuli village, Purba Medinipur, to Sisir and Gayatri Adhikari. He attended Contai High School and later pursued an undergraduate degree in Arts from Prabhat Kumar College in the same region.
He later earned a Master's degree in History from Kolkata's Rabindra Bharati University.
His Political Journey
Suvendu Adhikari first contested the West Bengal assembly elections in 2001 from Mugberia but lost by nearly 15,000 votes. He got elected to the West Bengal assembly from Kanthi Dakshin in 2006. However, in 2016, he changed his assembly seat to Nandigram.
Once a close aide to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee, he joined the BJP before the 2021 assembly elections. Since then, he has led the BJP's campaign against Banerjee. In the 2021 elections, he defeated the TMC supremo in his stronghold of Nandigram.
In the 2026 elections, the BJP fielded Adhikari in both Nandigram and Bhabanipur. He defeated Banerjee in Bhabanipur, a long-time TMC stronghold, by more than 15,000 votes. According to the data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), Adhikari received 73,917 votes while Banerjee secured 58,812.

Additionally, he has served twice as a Member of Parliament. He first got elected to the lower House from Tamluk in 2009 and was able to retain this seat in the 2014 parliamentary elections.
