The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has announced that the recruitment of 160 Assistant Public Prosecutors (APP) under the Jharkhand Prosecution Service will continue, though the appointments will be subject to the outcome of two petitions pending before the Jharkhand High Court.
Of the total posts, 134 are regular and 26 are backlog vacancies. Earlier, following a High Court directive dated July 11, the commission amended its advertisement, revising the age limit cut-off to August 1, 2019, and extending the application deadline. Later, in compliance with another court order, the cut-off date was shifted to August 1, 2018, with the deadline for offline applications extended until September 8.
With the application process now closed, JPSC has decided to move forward with the examination, though the final appointments will depend on the High Court’s ruling. The initial cut-off date of August 1, 2024, had been challenged in court, triggering the changes.
Meanwhile, on the recommendation of the Jharkhand High Court, two judicial service officers, Laxman Prasad and Taufiq Ahmed, have been given compulsory retirement. A government notification stated that both will receive three months’ salary as per service rules.
Laxman Prasad was serving as District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (ACB) in Chaibasa, while Taufiq Ahmed was posted as Under Secretary-cum-Legal Advisor in the Law Department. Both officers were retired on grounds of prolonged illness.
