The trade of narcotic substances is being conducted openly in the Tupudana area of the capital. In a major police operation, two young men were arrested while buying and selling brown sugar near Tupudana Chowk. Police recovered 3.5 grams of brown sugar from their possession. A case was registered against both accused under the NDPS Act, and they were produced in court, from where they were sent to jail.
Police Raid And Accused Details
The arrested accused have been identified as Sandeep Kumar and Chandrakant Jaiswal. A team, led by Hatia DSP Pramod Mishra and Tupudana OP In-charge Siddhant Kumar, raided a shop at Tupudana Chowk. Acting on a confidential tip-off, both individuals were caught red-handed during the operation. This raid, led by the Hatia DSP, has exposed the sale of brown sugar in the Tupudana area for the first time.
Repeat Offender: Sandeep Kumar's Criminal History
This is not the first time Sandeep Kumar has been apprehended by the police. Two years ago, Sandeep Kumar and Ghuran Mahto were sent to jail for selling cannabis (ganja) and narcotic drugs. After his release from prison, he resumed the drug trade.
Open Sale Of Opium And Banned Medicines
The sale of brown sugar, cannabis (ganja), opium, narcotic medicines, injections, and syrups is being conducted openly in Tupudana and its surrounding areas. Banned tablets and syrups are also being sold at pharmacies without a prescription. This drug racket is so well-established that the contraband often disappears before police raids, forcing officers to return empty-handed.
Rising Crime And Addiction Among Youth
Most concerning is that many young people in the area have fallen into the grip of addiction. School students, auto-rickshaw drivers, and labourers have all become victims. Due to this addiction, incidents of theft, robbery, and other crimes have increased in the region. Villagers and local residents state that the district's SSP had been receiving constant complaints, but significant action has only now been taken. Experts believe this addiction is destroying the younger generation and contributing to a rise in crime.
State-wide Crackdown And Future Action
The trafficking and sale of narcotic substances are rapidly increasing in Jharkhand. Arrests related to brown sugar and other drugs are continuously being made in several districts, including Ranchi and East Singhbhum, but the racket has not been fully brought under control. According to police sources, regular patrols and raids will be increased in areas such as Tupudana. Furthermore, major rackets are being monitored in an effort to dismantle the drug supply chain.
