Myth 1: All Hepatitis Is The Same
Fact: There are different types of hepatitis - A, B, C, D, and E and they are transmitted in different ways. The A and E forms are transmitted by way of contaminated food and water. B, C, and D are transmitted through blood and other bodily fluids. So now they're different diseases that attack your liver in different ways-that is also how we treat them.

Myth 2: Hepatitis Means Permanent Liver Damage
Fact: This is untrue in most cases. Usually, hepatitis is transient-they get better with rest and treatment, like Hepatitis A and E. Hepatitis C nowadays is treated with antiviral drugs that may completely cure most people within 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Akhil Deshmukh states, “While Hepatitis B cannot be cured today, the virus can be controlled from causing further liver damage by antiviral treatment for life.” Again, further emphasises the importance of regular monitoring with respect to fatigue, yellowing of the eyes, and abdominal pain.
Myth 3: There Is Nothing One Can Do About Hepatitis.
Fact: This is not true. For hepatitis A and B, we have effective vaccines. Education is important and good habits like hand washing, drinking safe drinking water, safe sexual practices, and understanding your health status are essential. Dr. Akhil Deshmukh shares, “The ones more at risk, like health care workers and those receiving more than one transfusion, need to be screened for liver disease.

Myth 4: Liver Damage Happens Only To Alcoholics
Fact: The liver can be damaged by many things, and not just from alcohol. The liver can be damaged by other infections, a fatty liver from obesity, prescriptions and medications, and even other things. So, regardless of whether you drink alcohol or not, the care and function of your liver are important.
