Causes Of Back Pain In Young Adults: Thought to be an old-age condition, back pain is of late becoming shockingly common among young adults. Worryingly, a trend has emerged over the recent past where increasing numbers of young people now report this health issue, and it is quite bothersome. Sedentary behaviour, unhealthy postures, technological influences, and high levels of stress are the main contributors to this phenomenon. This would largely help to resolve the problem and promote good spinal health among the young generation. Dr Aijaaz Ashai, celebrity physiotherapist, fitness consultant, and chairman explained common reasons for back pain in young adults.
Causes Of Back Pain In Young Adults
Sedentary Lifestyles and Lack of Physical Activity
The major reason that appears to be contributing to the increasing number of back pain cases in young adults is the sedentary lifestyle that most young people live today. Young people sit more these days with technology and remote working environments. Much stress is placed on the lower back by sitting for long hours, mostly with poor posture. The lack of regular physical activity further causes this in that weak muscles give out and fail to activity, leading to problems in the back.

Ergonomics and Bad Posture
Workstation posture is significant in an individual's spine health, but with the young, it is usually ignored. Be it bending over a desk, hunching over a smartphone, or slumping into a couch, these have become common postures. This is what culminates in misalignment of the spine and straining muscles, which in turn relate to backache. Added to that would be the gear or the furniture, like chairs and desks not designed properly and therefore not ergonomic. Together, these two can make for chronic back pain through the years, even without an existing spinal problem.

Technology and Its Impact on Our Spine
The Spine care importance has been further compounded by smartphone, tablet, and laptop technologies. Looking down for hours at a time is what is being termed as "text neck". In most cases, it has become a problem with children in this generation. Texting and all other kinds of handheld electronic use also bring about the forward-head posture, which indeed places an overextended stress on the neck and back, causing discomfort and pain. This done daily, over long hours, will result in early spinal problems.
Stress
Stress is another major trigger of back pain in young adults. Contemporary life with its tremendous academic and professional tasks and social challenges greatly strains a person, and the level of stressful situations is increased. That is why stress results in tension of the muscles of the back and neck, further resulting in pain and stiffness. Furthermore, psychological abnormalities, such as anxiety and depression, found more frequently in the young population, may cause some increase in pain sensitivity and create a vicious circle of discomfort and mental distress.
Prevention and Management
There are several measures through which back pain in young adults can be fought. Inculcate a habit of regular physical activity and exercise to strengthen core and back muscles. Good posture through the use of ergonomic furniture is essential for spine health. Limit the use of electronic gadgets and maintain a screen position at your eye level to limit any neck and back stress.
This has developed into a troublesome trend associated with modern lifestyles: the rise of back pain in young adults. It, therefore, becomes very critical to take health-preservation measures once possible causes are understood.
