Mumbai Local Train Update: Mumbai’s suburban railway network will see major service disruptions on Sunday, January 4, as both Central Railway and Western Railway carry out a scheduled mega block for maintenance work. The block is part of routine safety and infrastructure checks, but it is expected to affect thousands of daily commuters across multiple lines.

Central Line: Services Diverted, Delays Likely

On the Central line, train operations will be affected between Mulund and Matunga from 11:05 AM to 3:55 PM. During this period, slow local services departing from CSMT will be diverted to fast lines. These trains will halt only at Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund.

Similarly, trains leaving Thane during the block hours will also run via fast lines before rejoining slow tracks at Matunga. Due to these diversions, commuters should expect delays of around 15 minutes.

Western Line: Night-to-Day Block Planned

The Western line will face a longer disruption, starting late on January 3 night and continuing till Sunday afternoon. Both Up and Down fast lines will remain closed between 11:15 PM and 3:15 PM.

In addition, bridge maintenance work will affect slow lines between Grant Road and Mumbai Central from 11 AM to 12 PM. During this time, several slow trains will operate on fast tracks, resulting in no halts at Mahalaxmi, Prabhadevi and Matunga Road stations.

Trans-Harbour Line: Services Cancelled

On the Trans-Harbour route, Down line services between Thane, Vashi and Nerul will remain suspended from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM. Several local trains to and from Panvel, Vashi and Nerul will be cancelled during this window.

Travel Advisory For Passengers

Passengers travelling towards skipped stations are advised to change direction at Dadar or Bandra, as applicable, using the same ticket. Railway officials have urged commuters to plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.

Authorities said the maintenance work is necessary to ensure smoother and safer train operations in the coming days.
