Mumbai News: A 52-year-old police officer was injured in a violent incident in the Malad area of Mumbai on Tuesday. Assistant Sub-Inspector Manik Sawant sustained head injuries after being attacked with a stick by a man who was blocking traffic.

The incident occurred while ASI Sawant was on patrol in the Kachpada locality with his colleagues in a police van. When he noticed a traffic jam, he exited the vehicle to help clear the road. As he approached the scene, he saw a man deliberately blocking the vehicles.

Upon confronting the man and asking him to leave, the situation escalated. The man, furious at being approached, threatened to kill the officer. He then picked up a stick and hit Sawant on the head, causing the officer to lose consciousness and collapse.

The assailant fled the scene, leaving the stick behind. Quick to respond, Sawant's colleagues rushed him to Tunga Hospital in Malad, where he later regained consciousness after receiving treatment.

Following the attack, police launched an investigation and identified the suspect as Arun Harijan, a local resident of the Kachpada area. Based on Sawant's complaint, Mumbai police have filed a case against Harijan, charging him with attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). However, as of now, no arrests have been made.

In separate news, a video from Bengaluru's Indiranagar went viral in October, showing a woman confronting a traffic officer near ESI Hospital junction. Amid a jam, she was seen kicking, shouting and trying to remove the officer's body camera, threatening their jobs. The Bengaluru traffic police confirmed a criminal case was registered at Indiranagar Police Station and the woman was arrested, addressing the incident on the social media platform X.
