A group of five boys allegedly lured their friend, Abul Rehman Maksood Alam Khan, to a birthday celebration in Mumbai on November 24, only to carry out a plan to burn him alive. A case of attempted murder has been registered.

According to NDTV, the incident took place around 8 PM when one of Abul’s friends, Ayaz Malik, called to inform him about a cake-cutting plan. Excited, the 21-year-old agreed to join.

Later, around midnight, another friend, Sharif, called Abul and asked him to come to Wing 26 of Kohinoor Phase 3 society. When Abul reached the spot, he found five friends, Ayaz Malik, Ashraf Malik, Qasim Chaudhary, Huzaifa Khan, and Sharif Sheikh, waiting with a cake.

However, the celebration turned violent the moment Abul picked up the knife to cut the cake. The victim told police that the group began pelting him with stones. Ayaz then allegedly brought a bottle of petrol, and with Ashraf’s help, poured it on Abul.

Sensing the petrol, Abul panicked and shouted, “What are you doing?” Meanwhile, the other three accused tried to restrain him, reportedly telling Ayaz to “pour it.” As Abul attempted to escape, Ayaz allegedly used a lighter to set him on fire. His clothes ignited instantly, forcing him to run for his life.

Abul sprinted toward an adjacent building, where a security guard handed him a water bottle. He poured it over himself, but the fire persisted, prompting him to run to a nearby tap and douse the flames completely. Huzaifa, one of the accused, later took Abul to a city hospital for treatment.
