IND vs SA 2nd Test: Under-fire India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday said it was up to the BCCI to decide his future after the Test series whitewash against South Africa but also reminded everyone of the success the team has achieved in his tenure. He isn't asking for any morchances as the host's Test performances under him have stooped to new low as South Africa won the Test series by 2-0 for the first time in 25 years. Gambhir did face some tough question in the post-match press conference, which also includes about his future as thcoach of this Test team. He was enquired about his future and said that its up to the board to decide as to whether stays or not. 

"It is for the BCCI to decide. I have said this before as well, Indian cricket is important, I am not important. I am the same guy who got results in England, won the Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup. This is a team which is learning," Gambhir told reporters in the post-match press conference. 

In the start of thconference, Gambhir revealed that all the players in the team were responsible for thiss 2-0 series loss and that he will be the first one to take all the blame. "Blame lies with everyone, starts with me," he added.

Gambhir Not Keen On Blaming Individuals

"We need to play better. From 95/1 to 122/7 is not acceptable. You don't blame any individual or any particular shot. Blame lies with everyone. I never blamed individuals and won't do it going forward," he said. 

In his guidance, the host have lost 10 of their last 18 Tests. Post losing the home Test series against New Zealand in 2024, this team underwent a few changes before their next home Test series. They did have the youngsters in their team, but the result against South Africa was quite the same to that of the Kiwis. 

Gambhir had lately been criticised for constantly changing the team and picking more all-rounders than specialist in the longest format. And when he was asked about players excel in this format, and to that he said that the team needs 'tough characters'.

"You don't need the most flamboyant and talented cricketers to play Test cricket. What we need is tough characters with limited skills. They make good Test cricketers," he added. 

He was also asked about as to what does the team need to do in order to bounce back in tgis format and top this he said that Test cricket should be the priority. 

"Start prioritising Test cricket, if you are really serious about Test cricket. If you are serious about Test cricket in India, a collective effort is required. You cannot only blame only players or a certain individual," hconcluded.
