Mumbai BMC Mayor: The Mumbai mayor’s post has been reserved for a woman candidate from the general category after the Maharashtra Urban Development Department conducted a lottery on Thursday to decide mayoral reservations across cities for General, OBC, and SC/ST categories, including women. Now, the eligible candidates will file their nominations for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The elected councillors will then vote in a special assembly, where the candidate who receives more than half of all votes will be elected mayor.

Woman Mayors To Come Up In Multiple Cities

Apart from BMC, the mayor's seat has also been reserved for women in Pune, Dhule, Nanded, Navi Mumbai, Malegaon, Mira Bhayander, Nashik and Nagpur.

Mayoral seats in five municipal corporations, including Latur, Jalna, and Thane, have been reserved for SC candidates. Of these, the Latur and Jalna municipal corporations have reserved seats for SC women. Seats like Vasai-Virar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Solapur have been kept completely open. Any candidate from any community can be elected mayor here. In Maharashtra, the mayoral position is reserved on a rotational basis.
