Pune Metro Update: The Pune Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) has begun the construction of flyover-cum-Metro rail route on the Nagar Road stretch. The project involves building a 4.7-km flyover at the lower level, with an elevated Metro line running above it.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Atul Gadgil, Executive Director of Pune Metro, said, "We have started the process of developing the flyover-cum-Metro rail route on the Nagar road stretch. It is a very big work as the Metro stations would be constructed above the flyovers on the route."
This will be the third double-decker project for Pune Metro, following the Karve Road stretch, connecting the two metro stations, SNDT University and Garware College and the Ganeshkhind Road project.
4.7 Km Double Decker Flyover-cum-Metro Rail On Nagar Road: Check Details
- The new project will feature a 4.7-km elevated stretch from Ramwadi to Tuljabhavani, connecting with the proposed line at Kharadi Bypass station and a spur line at Viman Nagar extending till Pune Airport.
- The first level will feature a six-lane elevated road spanning 4.7 km, including a solid ramp that will provide a minimum statutory vertical clearance of 5.5 metres for both the Metro and the elevated road. This design aims to ease traffic Pune to Ahilyanagar highway.

- Construction of the project will include platform and concourse girders, as well as the erection and casting of deck slabs at four stations across all levels.
- The metro route, spur lines and first-level six-lane elevated road will be carefully planned to avoid interference with existing roads, railways, and other utilities, ensuring smooth movement across the city.
- According to the report, the first-level elevated road is being designed as a six-lane corridor, with provisions to expand to eight lanes in the future.
