Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Update: Commuters travelling between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar are set for significant relief as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is gearing up to open the new metro line connecting Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar in March 2026.

The metro line, developed under a public-private partnership, is expected significantly reduce travel time from two hours to approximately 30 minutes and ease congestion on roads.

Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line: Key Details

- Route: The metro line connects Hinjawadi with Shivajinagar, featuring 23 modern stations, with 14 advanced trainsets ready for operation.

- Public-Private Partnership: This is the first metro project in India developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

- Cost: The project is estimated to cost around Rs 8,313 crore, with funding support from both the Central and State governments, Pune Mirror reported.

- Global Standards: Technical checks and safety protocols have been confirmed by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) to ensure compliance with global safety standards.

Triple-Level Infrastructure At Vidyapeeth Chowk

A key highlight of the project is the "triple-level" infrastructure at Vidyapeeth Chowk, designed to alleviate traffic in one of Pune's busiest areas.

Ground Level: Dedicated to existing city roads for local traffic.

Middle Level: An integrated flyover for vehicular traffic.

Top Level: Elevated metro tracks above the flyover for trains.

How The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line Will Benefit Commuters?

According to a report by Pune Mirror, the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro line has completed two trial runs, signalling its readiness for commercial operations. Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase has recently completed the inspections, confirming that the project is progressing smoothly and is set for March 2026 launch.
