Pune Traffic Advisory: The Pune City Traffic Police have announced a series of traffic restrictions, diversions and road closures ahead of the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour cycling competition scheduled later this month.
The international cycling event will be held from January 19 to January 24, 2026. It is being organised by the Pune District Administration along with the Cycling Federation of India. Parts of the race will pass through key areas of the city, prompting traffic control measures to ensure safety and smooth conduct.
An official release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said that Stage 2 and Stage 4 of the race will move through Pune city limits. During these stages, general traffic will not be allowed on notified routes. Emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles and race-related transport will be exempted.
Stage 2 Restrictions On January 21
Traffic restrictions for Stage 2 will be imposed between 9 AM and 6 PM, depending on the movement of the cyclists. Roads in and around MG Road, Golibar Maidan, Lullanagar, Ganga Dham Chowk, Khadi Machine Chowk, Yewalewadi, Bopdev Ghat, Khadakwasla, Kirkatwadi and Nanded City will be affected.
Motorists will be diverted through alternative roads including Paud Road, Sinhagad Road, NDA Link Road and the Saswad-Bopdev Ghat route, based on their location.
Stage 4 Restrictions On January 23
On January 23, similar restrictions will be in force from 9 AM to 6 PM for Stage 4 of the race. This stage will pass through Baner Road, Pashan Circle, Pune University Chowk, Senapati Bapat Road, Karve Road, Nal Stop, Tilak Chowk, ABC Chowk, Deccan, the Camp area and Bal Gandharva Chowk, which will serve as the finish point.
Alternative routes such as Baner-Hinjawadi Road, the Pune-Mumbai Highway, DP Road, Law College Road, Paud Road, Sinhagad Road, Shankar Sheth Road and riverbed roads have been suggested to reduce congestion.
Other Important Restrictions
The stretch between Kirad Chowk and ISKCON Temple will remain closed to all vehicles from 7 AM on January 21. No-parking zones will be enforced on both sides of the Stage 2 and Stage 4 routes throughout the event period. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to operate within Pune city on January 21 and January 23. One-way traffic rules on affected roads will be temporarily relaxed only for race vehicles.
Public dvisory
Traffic police have appealed to residents to follow the advisory, plan their travel in advance and cooperate with on-duty police personnel and volunteers. The restrictions have been enforced under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act to maintain public safety during the event.
