Pune cycling event 2026: The Pune Grand Tour 2026 will begin on Monday with a short prologue race in Pune. The opening ride will start from Goodluck Chowk on FC Road and finish at the Deccan bus stop, setting the early standings for the week-long event.

This marks India’s first UCI 2.2-category men’s multi-stage continental cycling race and a major milestone for the sport in the country.

Who Can Participate In The Pune Grand Tour?

Professional and elite road cyclists from around the world can take part in the Pune Grand Tour. The race is open to international teams and riders invited under UCI regulations, including national and development squads, with competitors from many countries lining up.

Pune Grand Tour 2026: Record Indian participation

India will field a record 12 riders in a UCI-accredited road race for the first time. The team will be led by Asian Championship silver medallist Harshveer Singh Sekhon.

The Indian riders have been divided into two teams:

  • Indian National Team

  • Indian Development Team

Each team has six cyclists.

The five-day race will cover 437 kilometres across Pune city, the Deccan Plateau and the Western Ghats.

When Does The Tour Start In 2026?

The Pune Grand Tour 2026 is scheduled to begin on 19 January 2026 with an opening prologue race in Pune, continuing through to 23 January 2026 across multiple stages.

Pune Grand Tour 2026: Race Format And Stages

The event begins with a short prologue before moving into four demanding stages that test sprinting, climbing and race strategy.

Race schedule

  • January 19 (Monday): Prologue, Goodluck Chowk – 7.5 km

  • January 20 (Tuesday): Stage 1, Mulsi–Maval Miles – 87.2 km (via Hinjewadi)

  • January 21 (Wednesday): Stage 2, Maratha Heritage Circuit – 105.3 km (Purandar Fort, Sinhagad, Khadakwasla Lake)

  • January 22 (Thursday): Stage 3, Western Ghats Gateway – 134 km (Purandar to Baramati)

  • January 23 (Friday): Stage 4, Pune Pride Loop – 95 km (urban circuit including Shaniwar Wada)

The race is recognised by the Union Cycliste Internationale and offers ranking points that count towards qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics.
