India added two more athletics medals to its Asian Games 2026 tally on Monday as Sreeshankar Murali secured silver in the men's long jump and Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women's 5000m final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Sreeshankar produced a best jump of 8.07m on his second attempt to finish second in the men's long jump final. Despite appearing to be carrying an injury, the Indian managed to hold on to the silver medal.
China's Shu Yuhao claimed gold with a jump of 8.17m, while Uzbekistan's Anvar Anvarov took bronze with 8.07m. Sreeshankar was classified ahead of Anvarov on the countback after both athletes recorded the same best distance.
The medal adds to India's strong athletics campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Athletics had already produced several podium finishes for the Indian contingent before Monday's events.
Sreeshankar Murali Wins Long Jump Silver
Sreeshankar entered the men's long jump final as one of India's leading medal contenders and delivered a podium finish with his 8.07m effort.
The Indian recorded his best jump on his second attempt. His performance was particularly notable as he appeared to be struggling physically during the competition.
Shu Yuhao finished at the top of the standings with 8.17m, while Anvarov matched Sreeshankar's 8.07m mark. With the Indian holding the better series, he secured the silver medal.
The result gives Sreeshankar another major Asian Games podium finish and adds another medal to India's athletics haul. He struggled after an injury but winning the medal will surely boost his confidence.
Parul Chaudhary Bags 5000m Bronze
Parul Chaudhary followed Sreeshankar's silver with a bronze medal in the women's 5000m final.
The 31-year-old Indian clocked 15:14.61 to finish third behind Bahrain's Winfred Yavi, who won gold in 15:10.18, and Japan's Nozomi Tanaka, who took silver in 15:11.65.
Chaudhary was unable to defend the 5000m title she won at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, but she continued her medal-winning run in Aichi-Nagoya.
The bronze was also Parul's second medal of the 2026 Asian Games. She had earlier finished third in the women's 3000m steeplechase, making her one of India's multiple-medal winners in athletics at the Games.
Her latest podium finish further strengthens India's presence in the women's distance events.
