India's star shuttler HS Prannoy advanced to the men’s singles second round of the World Championships with a straight-game win over Finland’s Kalle Koljonen on Monday.
The quarterfinalist of the last two editions Prannoy got the better of left-handed Koljonen by 24-22, 21-10 to extend his head-to-head count over the Finnish player to 3-0.
The game witnessed an exciting battle between the two players as Koljonen was quick to open up an 8-4 lead. But Prannoy picked up with seven straight points to grab an 11-8 lead at the break.
Earlier, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy bowed out of the tournament after the mixed doubles pair lost 14-21, 22-20, 18-21 in 59 minutes against Scotland's Adam Hall and Julie Macpherson.
The Indian pair lost the first game before leveling with the win in the second. However, the Scottish pair held their nerves to go past the Indians in the third game.
