Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has urged critics and supporters not to overreact after the Red Devils suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City in their Premier League season opener on Saturday.
United's defeat against one of the sides expected to fight against relegation immediately raised questions over the team's performance and Carrick's approach.
However, the former Manchester United midfielder insisted that there was no reason for panic after just one match.

Carrick Calls For Calm After Hull Defeat
Carrick acknowledged the disappointment of the result but stressed that Manchester United must maintain their composure and continue working rather than allowing the defeat to create unnecessary chaos.
"I played here for a long time, you don't do that without the ups and downs but you have to carry on as normal," Carrick said after the defeat.
"We just don't all have to shout and scream and create some chaos," the United manager added.
Carrick's message came after United endured a difficult afternoon against Hull, who earned promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs last season and are widely expected to face a battle to stay in the top flight.
'Calmness Doesn't Mean There Is Not Emotion'
While Carrick called for a measured response, he made it clear that the result had affected him and his players.
"Calmness doesn't mean there is not emotion," Carrick said. "We have lost one game and it is not a nice one."
United were particularly poor during the opening half, conceding twice from set pieces. Semi Ajayi opened the scoring before Nobel Mendy doubled Hull's advantage, leaving the visitors facing an uphill battle.
Despite having plenty of the ball during periods of the game, United struggled to create a sustained attacking threat and failed to find a way back into the contest.

United Face Early Pressure
The defeat gives Carrick plenty to address before Manchester United's next Premier League fixture. Conceding twice from set pieces and failing to impose themselves against a newly promoted side will inevitably raise concerns.
However, Carrick believes the response is more important than allowing one poor result to dictate the mood around the club.
