Foldable smartphones are something that all major companies are going for, no matter what the reception rate for the devices might be. Lately Samsung came out with its foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, and Apple might be looking for a chance to enter and compete in the market, for which the Cupertino-based tech giant is a bit late.
This supposed foldable is expected to drop with the iPhone 18 Pro series that the company is expected to reveal later this year. Now there is no official confirmation from the tech giant about what the device will carry, but leaks and rumours on the internet have started to give us a picture, and as rumours shape up, one of the biggest things that has come to the fore is that this new foldable might have an interface similar to an iPad. The bigger screen size might come in handy if two apps need to run on the divided screen simultaneously.
iPhone Fold: What Can You Expect?
Apple’s upcoming iPhone Fold is expected to mark the company’s first step into the foldable smartphone category, and it could introduce multitasking features that current iPhone models don’t support. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device may offer a user interface that feels closer to the iPad experience once the phone is unfolded. In other words, when the larger inner display is open, the software could behave more like an iPad, making better use of the expanded screen space.
Reports suggest that the bigger display will allow users to run two apps at the same time, enabling a more advanced multitasking experience. At the moment, standard iPhones do not support running two apps side by side on the main screen, though limited picture-in-picture functionality exists for videos and calls. The foldable iPhone could also include an app sidebar along the left edge of the screen, similar to the interface seen in several iPad apps, making it easier to switch between applications.
Apple is also said to be working on developer tools that would help app makers optimise their apps for the larger display. When it comes to design, the foldable device is expected to sit somewhere between an iPhone and an iPad mini. When folded, it will reportedly resemble a regular slab-style iPhone with a standard outer display. However, once unfolded, the screen size is expected to expand to something closer to the size of an iPad mini.
As far as screens' aspect ratio is concerned, Apple might be reportedly opting for a different approach this time and might go for a 4:3 aspect ratio, closer to what Google's foldable has. The outer screen can be expected to be 5.5 inches, and inside the device could sport a 7.58-inch screen, almost the same as Apple's handset. As far as specs under the hood are concerned, the device could come with a dual camera setup at the back and on the front as well. The chip inside could be Apple's A20 Pro chip set made on 2 nm node technology. Apple's C2 modem for connectivity can also be expected, and apart from all this, the iPhone Fold could also come with a power button and Touch ID.
