iPhone iOS Update 2026: Apple has rolled out the iOS 26.4 update for iPhone, and while it brings a bunch of noticeable upgrades, one big piece of the puzzle is still missing.

This is the fourth major update to the current iOS version that first arrived in September, and it focuses heavily on improving everyday features, especially inside Apple Music.

Apple Music Gets Smarter

The highlight here is something called Playlist Playground. It’s essentially Apple leaning into AI, letting you create playlists just by describing what you’re in the mood for. Whether it’s a late-night drive or a workout session, you can type it out and the feature builds a playlist with a title and description to match. That said, it’s still in beta for now.

There’s also a new Concerts discovery feature, which surfaces live shows happening near you based on the artists you already listen to. It doesn’t stop there. Apple Music can now recognise songs even when you’re offline. The identification happens later once you’re back online, but the process starts without needing internet access.

Visually, the experience has also been refreshed. Album and playlist pages now support full-screen backgrounds, making the app feel a bit more immersive. Alongside that, a new Ambient Music widget puts curated playlists for sleep, focus, and relaxation right on your home screen.

Small Changes That Add Up

Outside of Apple Music, the update brings eight new emojis, including an orca, a trombone, and even a distorted face. They’re small additions, but they add a bit of personality to everyday conversations.

Accessibility also gets attention. There’s a new setting called Reduce Bright Effects to limit sudden flashes, along with easier-to-manage subtitle and caption controls. Apple has also refined the Reduce Motion setting to better tone down animations, especially those tied to its Liquid Glass design language.

More Useful Tweaks Across The System

A few practical upgrades are scattered across the system. The Freeform app now includes better tools for creating and editing images. Reminders can be marked as urgent, making them harder to miss, and Smart Lists have improved filtering options.

Even typing gets a boost, with Apple claiming better keyboard accuracy, particularly for faster typing.

The Missing Piece

Despite all these additions, the update skips one of the most anticipated upgrades. Apple Intelligence features, including a more capable version of Siri, are still not part of iOS 26.4.

So while this update adds polish and some genuinely useful features, it also leaves users waiting for the bigger AI push Apple has been teasing.
