Apple iPhone 18 Pro Camera Upgrades: The iPhone 18 series could be announced in September, but early indications point to only the Pro models being launched first. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, it seems, may get some big hardware updates across performance, connectivity, display design and camera tech if a new analyst report is to be believed. These shifts hint at Apple further investing in premium-level attributes for its high-end smartphones.

Apple iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max: What’s Expected

In a research note cited by MacRumors, industry analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities outlined key upgrades expected on the upcoming Pro models from Apple.

One of the most visible changes could be a smaller Dynamic Island. Apple is reportedly planning to move some Face ID components, including the flood illuminator, under the display, resulting in a cleaner screen design on both devices.

There you have the iPhone 18 Pro series, with the A20 Pro chipset being the rumoured first birth of the new chipset. The processor is rumoured to be built on TSMC’s 1st Gen 2nm process. This new architecture and packaging could even offer substantial improvements in performance and power efficiency over the current-generation chips.

Another significant upgrade would be Apple’s third-gen C2 modem. The Pro models could support NR-NTN (New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks), which will allow satellite-based internet access, such as that through low-Earth orbit satellites in regions without traditional cellular coverage, the analyst said. The previous C1 and C1X chips are less efficient and perform worse in weak or cluttered networks compared to the new C2 modem, according to the firm.

As for the cameras, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could have a 48MP Primbar Fusion camera lens with variable aperture. This could enable the dynamic manipulation of light collection, enhancing depth-of-field/pinhole size/selectivity under various shooting conditions. If it happened, it would be a first for iPhones.
