Apple iPhone 18 Series Display Upgrades: Last year Apple introduced its iPhone 17 series in September. Pro models are always what people eye, but iPhone 17 was the one that got the biggest upgrade when comparing the lineup. Now, as we are in 2026, there have been new reports about the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 series. We can expect some improvements in display technology with LTPO+ panels. Even an under-display infrared sensor, probably for biometric authentication.
Apple iPhone 18 Series Display Upgrades
Recently a South Korean publication called ETNews reported that Apple will source its iPhone 18 series display and iPhone fold display from Samsung and LG. Reportedly, the China-based display manufacturer BOE Display encountered quality-related issues, leading to a setback in its role within the iPhone 17 models' supply chain.
So this time BOE might not get involved with the iPhone 18’s display technology, as there will be technical difficulties in manufacturing the iPhone 18’s display.
LTPO+ and under-display Infrared Sensor
As per reports, it is expected that Apple is looking for the LTPO+ display panels. These use oxide TFTs for both switching and driving, which could mean better brightness, quicker response times, and improved battery life.
Also the report included that the LTPO panel might also have an under-display IR sensor. This can be used for several things, such as face ID authentication and might result in Apple bringing under-display face ID authentication.

So it is possible that Apple might remove the Dynamic Island notch for a cleaner and more screen-to-body-ratio look. The iPhone 18 series may thus only feature a small hole-punch selfie camera cutout, with Face ID technology remaining under the display.
iPhone Fold Expected
Now several reports have also suggested the foldable iPhone as well. As per reports, Samsung will play a key role in providing the display for the iPhone Fold 2026. Apple's foldable OLED panel is known to feature a screen that unfolds horizontally along the vertical axis, eliminating the crease.
