Apple Maps: It seems like Apple is trying to increase its revenue sources and might bring ads to its Maps app; according to a veteran journalist, this move forms a part of Apple's long-term plan of drawing revenue from services. While nothing official is out right, and details remain behind curtains, one can expect the ads to function as they do in Google Maps. What's interesting is the fact that the announcement for this notification can take place this month itself. Apple seems to be moving in this direction following the introduction of advertising slots in its App Store.

Apple Maps To Get Ads?
Apple might be working on a system that integrates a bidding system which allows businesses to place their ads in the search results of Apple Maps. For instance, sponsored results could soon take priority in Maps searches, meaning businesses that bid higher might appear at the top when users look for things like “sushi” or "coffee".
According to the report, this model isn’t new and closely mirrors how platforms such as Google Maps and Yelp handle advertising, where companies can pay to boost their visibility, something similar to what you have in search but in the Maps app. Apple, however, has not officially confirmed anything so far, with a spokesperson choosing not to comment.
The rollout of these ads could begin as early as this summer, potentially showing up across iPhones, other Apple devices, and even on the web, Gurman noted.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the idea has surfaced. Back in October 2025, Gurman had highlighted Apple’s plans to bring ads to Maps, suggesting that the company could rely on AI-driven tools to make these promotions more relevant and useful for users.
Expanding On Revenue Sources
This push by Apple is just another move to source revenue from its services. Apps working towards its advertising aspirations. The previous year, in April, the Cupertino-based tech giant took another step in a similar direction and rebranded its ad venture from Search Ads to Apple Ads. Apple's advertising wing is expected to post a generated revenue of $8.5 billion, which translates to approximately Rs 70,000 crore in 2026, under the leadership of Todd Teresi, reporting to Eddy Cue, services chief.

While competitors have a head start here, this venture could help Apple scale revenue significantly and perhaps make it an important component of Apple's services portfolio in the future. As mentioned above, ads have already started to pop up in tech giants' App store, and the company is looking forward to increasing its revenue sources from other apps like its News app and Podcasts. That's not it; you might soon be spotting ads even during sports content. For instance, Major League Soccer could be a potential venture where Apple could explore options to increase its revenue.
