iOS 26.5 Update: Apple has officially started rolling out the iOS 26.5 update for eligible iPhone users globally. After spending the past few weeks in beta testing, the stable version is now available with a bunch of practical changes focused on messaging, privacy, accessories, and Apple Maps.
The update can be downloaded by heading to Settings > General > Software Update on supported iPhones.
RCS Chats Between Android And iPhone Users Get Better Privacy
One of the biggest changes in iOS 26.5 is support for encrypted RCS messaging. In simple terms, chats between Android and iPhone users using RCS will now be more secure.
Until now, while RCS improved things like media sharing and typing indicators between Android and iPhone users, conversations still lacked the kind of encryption people are used to on apps like WhatsApp or Signal. With iOS 26.5, Apple is finally addressing that gap.
For users, this mostly means cross-platform messaging becomes a little more private and safer from interception.
Apple Maps Is Changing Too
Apple is also making a noticeable change inside the Maps app. Businesses can now promote their listings so they appear more prominently during searches.
At the same time, Apple is adding a Suggested Places feature that surfaces nearby restaurants, cafes, stores, and other locations based on what is trending around users. The company seems to be turning Maps into more of a discovery platform instead of keeping it limited to navigation.
USB-C Accessories Are Easier To Pair
The update also improves how USB-C accessories connect with iPhones. Devices like the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse can now be paired more quickly using a wired USB-C connection before switching to Bluetooth automatically.
It is a small addition, but one that could make setup less frustrating for users who regularly connect accessories across Apple devices.

Easier Switching From iPhone To Android
Apple has also quietly improved the data transfer process for users moving from iPhone to Android phones. With iOS 26.5, users can now choose specific message attachments during transfers instead of moving everything together.
The update additionally brings a new animated Pride wallpaper along with security fixes and general performance improvements running in the background.
