Apple Google Gemini AI models: As you know, Apple and Google have signed a multi-year deal through which Google will integrate its Gemini AI with Apple’s core AI ecosystem. This partnership will automate Apple A.I. Foundation models and other features such as a more advanced and hyper-contextual Siri. 

Both companies have confirmed a more advanced Siri will be available to the public by the end of the year. 

Gemini to Become the Backbone of Apple Intelligence

In a public statement, Apple claimed to have picked Google’s Gemini tech among many for its “most capable foundation” in building Apple’s next generation models. Gemini-powered foundation models will provide AI functionalities for Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple also said, despite the collaboration, Apple Intelligence will continue to be processed on Apple’s hardware and Private Cloud Compute, keeping the user’s data fully within Apple’s privacy. 

The partnership is expected to enrich Siri with more competitive reasoning, contextual understanding, and dialogue naturalness.

Partnership Becomes Reality

Given the Apple and Google overlapping partnerships, Gemini being the chosen tech for Siri’s improvements was most expected. Gemini improves AI driven web search and more advanced conversational capabilities.

An Apple-Google partnership continues to drive the development of Gemini. Apple has been reported to pay Google for the construction of a Gemini that runs exclusively on Apple’s private cloud.

Siri’s Upgrade Importance

Apple’s WWDC 2024 highlighted Apple Intelligence as the flagship product for iOS 18. Customers are still waiting for the release of the most significant update — an intelligent Siri. Apple is losing customers due to this Siri delay.

Apple’s Siri wants to add the capabilities of processing personal context, as well as screen content and app actions. This is expected to be possible via the Gemini integration.

Final Release Timeline Not Available

Apple has advised that Siri will be able to process personal context during the course of this year. However, Apple’s internal reporting indicates that this will happen with the iOS 26.4 update in Spring 2026. Apple has been clear that these development challenges lead to shifting timelines.

What This Means for Users

If things go well for Apple, Siri might have a shot at competing with the likes of ChatGPT, Gemini Assistant, and Copilot. This would not be exclusive to voice assistance, as Siri could become a personal AI advocate embedded in the Apple ecosystem. 

For Apple, the partnership with Google is not about reliance but instead about rapid catching up.
