AI-generated images can be fun, but a guy in his underwear: not so much without consent. Grok on X finds faces, poses them bikini-style and falls behindAs proof of concept, Grok on X was recently used to create bikinibody images of real people and shared online causing a public outcry in privacy. What made this all the more controversial was how Elon Musk then jumped on the #aprilfools trend – somehow normalising it despite there being so many ethical concerns.

Here’s the deal: you can minimise the possibility that Grok will create AI pics of you. Grok relies on the permissions, settings and your shared data. If you own those, you own a substantial part of what it can do with your identity.

Below are three practical ways to protect yourself.

Method 1: Turn off personalisation and data usage in Grok

Grok leeches off your X life for customised response and image generation. Turning that off reduces how much it can learn from your behaviour and interests.

In your browser, go to Grok: tap the profile icon, select Settings, and then Data Controls. Disable Personalise Grok using X and any other creative or image-based generation options.

What this basically means is easy: Grok forgets about you after you exhibit your X action.

Method 2: Revoke camera and gallery permissions

If the X app has access to your photos, Grok might be able to analyze or refer to that content. Do you really want that risk?

Open your phone’s Settings, tap Apps, then select X and open Permissions. Disable permission for Camera, Photos and Gallery.

If you still want to grant limited access, be sure it is only the select images that are allowed. No one has to have full gallery access No one NEEDS full gallery access, And it'd be unsafe.

Method 3: Never upload your photos to Grok

This is the most effective rule.

Without your images, Grok has no data about your face. Without that, it cannot effectively create A.I. versions of you. As soon as you upload even one photo, you’re giving the system something to compare with.

AI tools are powerful, but privacy can be preserved only if users actively defend it. Grok doesn’t have the capability to magic up what you look like. It makes sense of what you let it witness.
