Days after the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video from Facebook, Meta has introduced new protocols for handling prominent accounts. Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan confirmed that the company put forward the safeguards after July 28. Additionally, a meeting is likely to be held between the Centre and Meta officials with seven to nine days.

The two parties are likely to discuss the technical and policy-related aspects regarding the lapse. Additionally, the meeting will focus on the concerns raised by the Govt, Krishnan said. Meta had also submitted a written apology for the temporary removal of the video and has also clarified the reasons behind the act.

Earlier, Meta apologised for accidentally removing PM Modi's Facebook post, calling it a technical glitch. However, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) was dissatisfied with the response and had summoned META officials for a meeting. Amid this controversy, the government is also considering proposals to introduce a username system on messaging platforms.
In his address, the Prime Minister said the government would announce tougher measures to tackle paper leaks. PM Modi had assured students that the government would take stricter measures to curb examination paper leaks, including bringing tougher legal provisions before the Union Cabinet.
He said directions had been issued to set up fast-track courts and that a draft law proposing stringent punishment and special courts for paper leak cases would be placed before the Cabinet before being introduced in Parliament.
