Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has commercially launched its Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service in all telecom circles across India. The state-run telecom operator made the announcement of pan-India availability via its official X (previously Twitter) handle, which seems to have taken a huge leap as part of their resolving issues for better call connectivity, particularly in areas with low or zero mobile coverage networks.
With this development, BSNL will become the latest Indian telecom to offer VoWiFi service after private telcos like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio launched their services a while ago.
What Is BSNL VoWiFi and How It Work?
Voice over Wi-Fi enables users to call and text through a Wi-Fi connection instead of cellular towers. Which is to say, you can take calls even if cellular signals are spotty or nonexistent, so long as the phone is hooked up to a stable Wi-Fi network.

The service is useful, especially in the rural and remote areas of India where mobile connectivity is poor, BSNL added. In these areas users will be able to rely on Wi-Fi connections for clear, uninterrupted voice calls.
Key Benefits of BSNL VoWiFi
The best part about BSNL’s VoWiFi service is that you don’t need a different application to make calls or for the same. Call recipients also can place and receive calls using your phone’s regular dialler, as if it were a normal voice call. VoWiFi is free to use, and a person’s call charge will be based on their existing voice plan.
The service also enables seamless switching between mobile networks and Wi-Fi. That means a call in progress can easily switch between cellular and Wi-Fi without being dropped, enhancing the overall calling experience.
VoWiFi is particularly useful in large areas like houses, office spaces or even basements and high-rise buildings where mobile signals are generally poor. It also helps ease the load on mobile networks, which is beneficial for customers as well as BSNL’s infrastructure.
Works With Bharat Fibre and Other Broadband Networks
BSNL’s VoWiFi comes over a stable WiFi connection, including BSNL Bharat Fibre and other broadband services. Calls and texts travel over the internet rather than through mobile towers, which means improved call quality in signal-challenged locales.

How to Enable VoWiFi on BSNL
Enabling VoWiFi is simple. The only setup required is for users to enable the Wi-Fi Calling feature under their phone settings. The feature is available on most newer Android and iOS devices.
If you are not sure whether your handset is VoWiFi compatible, BSNL has asked users to visit the closest BSNL customer service centre or call up customer care at 1800-1503 for assistance.
With the launch of this service across the country, BSNL has taken a major lead in providing high-quality voice services and incremental internet.
