In early December, Google started pushing out its 2025 recap for Google Photos. This is not like Spotify Wrapped or YouTube Recap; this feels much more personal, because it showcases moments from your own year, all. Yet, a lot of users are still waiting to receive it. Even those who check all the criteria are saying that either the recap has never surfaced, or it popped up momentarily and then was gone.
If you’re still waiting, you’re in good company. Google Photos users have been whining on Reddit and the Google Support forums for weeks. Multiple users report they saw the message pop up one or more times in early December, tapped on it, and watched as it instantly disappeared — only to never appear again. That’s precisely what happened to quite a few people, even though they had thousands of photos backed up, Face Groups enabled and the latest version of the app installed.
Though Google has not provided a reason for the uneven rollout, there are two workarounds you can use to try and manually initiate the recap. Neither is a sure thing for everyone, but they’re worth a try.
Method 1: Use the Google One “Year in Review” Email
Users opened their bilateral one-on-one emails to discover their Photos recap stuffed inside the broader Google One Year in Review email. If you’re already signed up for Google One, keep an eye on your inbox for an email labelled something like “Your Google One Year in Review”.
Scroll through the email carefully. In the middle, there could be a module prompting you to revisit your 2025 Google Photos recap. When you tap “Get your Recap” on your phone, the Google Photos app will open, and the recap pop-up should appear.
The downside is simple. Not everyone receives this email. It can even happen in the same household: one person gets it, while another doesn’t. If you never received the email to begin with, this isn’t going to be helpful.
Method 2: Trigger It From the Google Photos Website
A second workaround shared by Reddit users involves the Google Photos website. On your phone, open a browser and visit google.com/intl/en/photos/about. On that page, tap “Get your recap”.
If it works, your phone should automatically open the Google Photos app and display the 2025 recap pop-up. For some users, this has successfully brought back a recap that had disappeared weeks earlier.

That said, this method isn’t foolproof either. As reported by Android Authority, both workarounds can still fail depending on account eligibility, region, or how Google is handling the rollout on the backend.
Bottom Line
If your Google Photos 2025 recap hasn’t shown up yet, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ineligible. The rollout appears patchy and inconsistent. Trying the Google One email link or the Photos website trigger may bring it back, but results vary.
If neither method works, the only real option may be patience. Google could still be expanding the rollout quietly, just without telling anyone.
