New GTA on Netflix: Popular OTT company Netflix is widely known for its movies and web series content. The company also has a gaming service that is not as popular as its other entertainment bundle. And it seems in an attempt to bring more eyeballs to Netflix Games, the streaming giant could introduce a new Grand Theft Auto title on the offering.
According to IGN, the update roots back to a report from the Wall Street Journal, which talked at length about the firm's intention to churn out more business from the gaming arm. According to WSJ, Netflix "discussed plans" to launch a GTA title via a licensing deal with the parent company Take-Two Interactive Software.
However, it is not clear whether the game will be the much-anticipated title - Grand Theft Auto 6. The gaming news outlet is not confident about a possible question of GTA 6. It could be a different iteration, the developer and the deeper insights of which remain scant at the moment.
IGN speculates that the GTA lineup game that may debut on the service will likely be a mobile offering (at least initially), as the Netflix Games portfolio is currently limited to smartphone apps. But, the OTT business plans to expand it to big screens like televisions and PCs later, according to the report.
For context, Netflix spent around $1 billion on its games lineup to date, reports WSJ. Plus, it plans to hire more individuals for the upcoming expansion of the AAA titles. However, there are no concrete updates around these plans that may materialise its future prospects. Digging deeper into Netflix Games popularity, Apptopia reported that under one per cent of the subscribers play games on a daily basis on a Netflix plan.
