It is very simple to link Aadhaar with PAN through the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. The ‘Link Aadhaar’ facility is positioned on the home page and it is accessible to both registered and unregistered users.

A deadline looms that is a big deal and you should not miss it.

In case your PAN was issued before October 4, 2024, and if you have used the Aadhaar enrolment ID to apply for PAN, then the last date to link aadhaar with Pan is December 31, 2025.

If not done so, your PAN will become inoperative with effect from 1 January 2026.

How to link PAN with Aadhaar? (Pre-login Process)

Step 1: Click on the new Income Tax e-filing portal (2.0) tab.

Step 2: Scroll down the home page and click on ‘Our Services’. Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’. You will be taken to a new page.

Step 3: Enter the required details:

- PAN

- Aadhaar number

- Name as per Aadhaar

- Mobile number

Check the box that says “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details.” In case your Aadhaar only has the year of birth (without date and month), check the appropriate box. Click ‘Continue’.

Step 4: You will get a 6-digit OTP on your registered mobile number. The OTP is only valid for 15 minutes You have three chances to enter it correctly.

Type your OTP and click on ‘Validate’.

Step 5: Once verified, the confirmation message will be received that your PAN–Aadhaar linking request has been submitted successfully.

How to Do a Pre-login Verification of PAN–Aadhaar Link Status

Step 1: Visit the new e-filing portal.

Step 2: Click on ‘Our Services’, and then choose ‘Link Aadhaar’.

Step 3: Provide your PAN and Aadhaar number, followed by clicking on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.

Step 4: A pop-up will let you know if your PAN is linked to Aadhaar.

How to Check PAN–Aadhaar Link Status (Post login)

Step 1: Log in to your e-filing account using your User ID and Password.

Step 2: Click on your username in the top right-hand corner, and choose ‘My Profile’.

Step 3: Your profile page will display your Aadhaar number with the ‘Linked’ status upon completion.
