Netflix Features Update: In order to keep its users engaged during the live broadcasting events, Netflix has introduced a new feature through which live voting will now be possible. This is particularly interesting, as this will allow users to cast their votes in real time and thus impact how the show progresses further. That's not it. Netflix is also going to change how the app looks with its redesigning and implement new AI tools, as was announced during its fourth quarter.

New Live Voting Feature

Netflix had announced on January 20, through a post, that the latest feature called 'live voting' was added to the platform, and the feature could be used during the live talent show Star Search in the US. “For the first time ever, viewer votes on Netflix will determine, in real time, who advances in the competition and who is knocked out,” the post said.

This feature adds a unique nuance for what people did earlier when it came to voting for live shows. The traditional voting concept of TV shows has been given a real-time update to it, making the result declaration an instant thing rather than something that took days previously.

There are a few things to keep in mind, though. As all this takes place in real time, users can only vote when they are watching the live broadcast, and it does not work if you rewind the broadcast later, says Netflix's support page. Apart from that, on the website the feature is not supported and is limited to Smart TVs via remote, mobile apps and other streaming devices. For the particular show that aired in the US, Star Search, users could vote performances between one and five stars. Some segments also prompt the user to vote for or choose a contestant that they think deserves to go on to the next round of the show.

App Redesign

Apart from the live voting feature, Netflix is also going to redesign its app. As per a report from TechCrunch, Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, affirmed that the update and redesign of the app will take place during the Q4 earnings call and expressed that the new app will “better serve the expansion of our business over the decade to come” with no further comments.

The executive has also revealed that the company is moving in a direction where it will work upon the vertical video feeds called Moments and also reportedly said that these vertical video windows will also feature podcasts, while the company will keep the scope of broadening its horizons when it comes to experimenting with vertical feeds in terms of variety of content.

Two new AI features were also mentioned by the California-based streaming giant that users will get to interact with this year. Firstly, subtitle localisation, where Netflix will use its AI to give you subtitles in multiple languages while trying to maintain tone, context and meaning. Secondly, an AI-powered recommendation tool is also on the anvil, which will filter out relevant titles for the members.
