Capcom has already confirmed that Resident Evil: Code Veronica is getting the remake treatment, but it looks like that may not be the only classic Resident Evil game making a comeback.

A fresh leak suggests the original Resident Evil has quietly entered development. The information comes from well known insider Dusk Golem, who claims the remake has been in pre production since around August or September 2025.

Replying to a fan on X, the leaker said the project moved into its early development phase nearly a year ago. They also claimed Capcom is likely to ramp up work on the game once development on Resident Evil: Code Veronica is wrapped up.

According to Dusk Golem, the Code Veronica remake is currently in its crunch phase, which usually means developers are putting in extra hours as the project approaches the finish line.

Capcom officially announced the Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake during Summer Game Fest in June, with the game currently scheduled to launch in 2027.

The insider also shared another interesting detail. They claimed the rumoured Resident Evil Zero remake has been in full production since late 2022, hinting that Capcom is juggling multiple remake projects at the same time.

None of this has been confirmed by Capcom. At the moment, Resident Evil: Code Veronica is the only remake the company has officially announced, while both the Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero remakes remain the subject of leaks and rumours.

Capcom's strategy wouldn't come as a surprise, though. The remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 have been both critical and commercial successes, making it easy to see why the company would continue revisiting older entries in the series.

The original Resident Evil first launched in 1996 and helped define the survival horror genre. It was later remade in 2002, a version that is still widely regarded as one of the finest video game remakes ever released. If the latest leak turns out to be accurate, Capcom could once again be preparing to revisit the game that started it all.
