Samsung has unveiled an aggressive roadmap for 2026 that is focused on embedding AI in every device it makes. “ During the company and division’s virtual New Year address, TM Roh, president and head of the Mobile Communications Business Department at Samsung Electronics, outlined the future direction of its phone business. A separate address by Jeon Young-hyun, vice chairman who heads the Device Solutions (DS) business, underscored how important AI has become to Samsung's future.

AI as the Core of Samsung’s Device Strategy

Roh is quoted emphatically in the statement, stating that AI will no longer be a “standalone feature but an integrated experience that not only touches the devices and services.” The company plans to “organically incorporate AI technology into all devices and service ecosystems in the DX category so that the future user experience is more intuitive,” he said. Roh added that this strategy can enable Samsung to solidify its role as the driving force of global AI evolution.

This move, known internally at Samsung as AXE (AI eXperience), comes after the handset maker narrowly missed its deadline to include Bixby in all of its connected products. AXE was a change in mindset more than just a technical upgrade, Roh said. The goal is to get AI to radically change the way Samsung employees design products and customers interact with them on a daily basis. By building in deeper AI capabilities into devices, Samsung hopes to safeguard and build on the lead it has taken with smartphones as well as add value to its home appliances and consumer electronics products.

Samsung currently has some AI-focused features available on select smartphones and smart home appliances, with a combination of both processing done on-device and in the cloud. Should this roadmap come to fruition, AI capabilities may become ubiquitous across nearly all of Samsung’s devices. But the company has not as yet elucidated how this technology would be implemented in products that are non-connected or offline.

Semiconductor Push to Support AI Growth

Jeon Young-hyun’s address had to do with the semiconductor part of Samsung, which is the backbone of its AI ambitions. Jeon, leader of the DS division, pinpointed Samsung’s unique advantage as a “one-stop solution” from logic chips and memory to foundry services and advanced packaging.

He said demand for such semiconductors, focusing on AI, is at historic highs, and Samsung is poised to react aggressively. Jeon mentioned high-bandwidth memory itself, saying that in the case of HBM4, strong competitiveness has already been demonstrated and feedback from customers is good. Recovering leadership in memory and enabling the foundry business to embark on a new phase of growth that will be led by AI workloads are top priorities, added Mr Gelsinger.

Samsung is already on track to be the first company to produce its next-generation high-bandwidth memory components at volume as soon as February, further bolstering its competitive edge regarding AI hardware.

A Clear Signal for 2026

Collectively, the New Year speeches point to a clear direction for Samsung in 2026. ” AI will be a cornerstone layer in consumer products as well as in key semiconductor technologies. Whilst few tales have been shared, the company’s leadership has advocated that AI incorporation will be pivotal to defining Samsung products and services and internal operations for years to come.
