Telegram 12.4.0 Update: Telegram issues an update for Android with a great focus on visual redesigns Yesterday saw the arrival of Telegram’s most significant release for its Android app to date, bringing along a major visual overhaul in the process after dabbling in more minor changes last year. The update includes new UI elements throughout the app and counts as one of Telegram’s largest Android redesigns so far. Now widely rolling out on the Play Store, this update continues further tweaks that started being implemented in late 2025 and brings Android a step closer to the refreshed appearance already viewed on iOS.
Telegram Android Update 12.4.0 Now Live
The redesign is included in Telegram for Android version 12.4.0 and later that are currently rolling out via the Google Play Store to users' devices. The update builds on the October and November 2025 changes that redesigned certain corners of the app, this time extending its new look much further.

Liquid Glass Design Takes Center Stage
With this release, Telegram is now fully Liquid Glass-themed. Then there is the four-tab bottom navigation bar that honestly looks pretty similar to iOS-style layouts.

The bottom bar is sticky, so it sticks around even when you scroll – making navigation feel more enduring. Telegram has also included more transparent UI elements, which can be seen even when using the app in light mode. It’s not identical to the iOS version but clearly has been inspired by Apple’s new design language for visuals and beyond transparency.

Hamburger Menu Removed
Another big change is the elimination of the hamburger side menu. Items such as “New Group” and other buttons that you had to tap above the chats list are now included in a three-dot overflow menu at the top right of the screen.
Following iOS, Mixed User Reactions
Telegram brought full-on Liquid Glass support to iOS in early January, with the Android revamp landing not long after. Not everyone is happy with the new look, though; several users are disappointed by how much of a visual change it has brought.
