Rumours around Apple's foldable have been building a lot of momentum about the supposed device, and now a new leak has surfaced that sheds light on how Apple plans to solve the long-standing problem of visible creasing on foldable devices. The leaked details suggest that Apple might be working on a new kind of internal display that might help it get rid of the creasing problem.
A New Internal Display?
As per the report shared by popular tipster Digital Chat Station, the Cupertino-based tech giant might use a dual-layer glass tech. This combination of dual glass will include ultra-thin glass (UTG) and ultra-thin flexible glass (UFG) as well. In this the layer that will have the display will sit between the layers of glasses mentioned before, moving away from the previous design philosophy where the display was directly attached to the hinge. Currently most foldables employ only one UTG layer which purposefully protects the display and also aids in its movement while folding repeatedly. Now if the display layer is separated from the hinge, the company might be able to lower the stress on the panel while the device folds. MacRumors also suggest that this might end up decreasing the visual creasing that most foldables have.
Crease Control And A New Design?
Another interesting thing that has come out through leaks is that the device might utilise a self-healing glass, along with the hinge for a smoother folding experience. This new implement paired with the above-mentioned layers of UTG and UFG could finally mean that the company achieves its goal of making the crease less obvious while using the device on a regular basis. But there are reports that suggest that a complete non-crease or a fully crease-free design might still not be achievable with the material we have now.
Recent updates also discuss the supposed device's form factor; it is expected that this foldable iPhone will have a much wider feel compared to devices that already exist in the market, and when opened the screen might resemble an aspect ratio similar to a tablet, an iPad for instance, instead of the square-type layouts that we are familiar with. This could mix things up and might end up showing apps and content in a different way than we are used to.
Launch Timeline And Release Plan
