Telangana Dogs Killing: A large number of stray dogs have been killed once again in Telangana. In a fresh incident, 100 dogs were poisoned to death in the Rangareddy district, just 50 kilometers away from Hyderabad. This incident days after 500 dogs were killed in Telangana.
Sarpanch, Three Others Arrested
Telangana police suspect that the killings were carried out by professionals. The 100 dogs were poisoned at the behest of the village sarpanch (village head) and his associates. Police have arrested the sarpanch and three others.

Mudavat Preeti of the Stray Animal Foundation of India filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident. The police have registered a case against three people, including the sarpanch, under Sections 3(5) and 11(1)(a)(i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act. The ward member and the village secretary are also named in the complaint.
Dog Bodies Are Missing
The incident occurred on January 19. Police suspect that after poisoning the dogs, their bodies were buried outside the village. According to SHO Nandeshwar Reddy, "We are investigating the matter seriously. We are trying to find the place where the dogs were buried."

How Suspicion Arises
Preeti said that several dogs suddenly disappeared from the village. When villagers were questioned about this, they started giving contradictory statements, which raised suspicions. It was suspected that the dogs were killed with poisonous injections. Ward member Adulapuram Gautam revealed that the dogs were first given anesthetic injections and then injected with a poisonous substance, leading to their death.
Police In Action After Stray Dogs Killed
Earlier on January 11, police said a case was registered against nine people after around 300 stray dogs were allegedly killed in Hanamkonda. In a complaint filed on January 9, animal welfare activists Adulapuram Goutham and Farzana Begum alleged that 300 stray dogs were killed in Shayampet and Arepally villages over three days from January 6.
The activists accused the Sarpanches and Gram Panchayat Secretaries of hiring two individuals to poison the dogs and later dump the carcasses on the outskirts of the villages. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and other applicable laws at Shyampet police station.
