Hyderabad News: Food safety officials in Hyderabad are ramping up inspections of various food establishments as Diwali approaches. Recently, they identified serious hygiene issues at sweet shops, a momo outlet following health complaints and several shawarma units across the city.
On October 29, 2024, the task force inspected a Zomato Hyperpure warehouse in Kukatpally. Hyperpure is Zomato's supply chain service that provides restaurants and caterers with a range of products, including fruits, vegetables, meat and kitchen equipment. During the inspection, officials confirmed that the warehouse was operating under a valid State License, which was displayed as required. They also found that the necessary Medical Fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records were in order.
However, the team discovered several food safety violations. Notably, they found 18 kilos of button mushrooms labelled with a "future date of packing" for October 30, 2024, while the inspection took place a day earlier. Additionally, the warehouse had house flies present and it was noted that the facility was open to the outside without proper insect-proof screening. Some food handlers were also seen without hair caps and aprons.
This inspection is not an isolated incident. Earlier in June, the task force conducted a raid on a Blinkit warehouse in Devar Yamjal, Medchal Malkajgiri District, uncovering unhygienic conditions, expired items and potential infestations. Following the latest findings, officials stated that a notice would be issued and further action would be taken accordingly.
