Ola, Uber, and Rapido cab drivers are boycotting Hyderabad airport travels after the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers' Union (TGPWU) decided to begin a campaign against low prices. According to the TGPWU, the low rates enforced by aggregator corporations have adversely harmed cab drivers' incomes.
The union claimed that despite several requests to the government and the transportation department for a standard and equitable fare system, no significant action has been done.
As a result, Ola, Uber, and Rapido taxi drivers would boycott journeys to Hyderabad's airport facilitated by the aggregators unless their demands are met, the union announced.
The president of the union, Shaik Salauddin stated, “Our members have consistently voiced their grievances about exploitative fare structures. These low fares not only compromise driver earnings but also devalue their time and efforts. The government must take immediate steps to implement a uniform fare policy that is fair to both drivers and passengers.”
The TGPWU campaign calls for a boycott of airport travel until rates are lowered.
It also attempts to educate travelers about the financial problems of gig and platform workers.
Furthermore, the movement seeks government engagement to control and standardise aggregator pricing policies.
The TGPWU is inviting drivers and the general public to join the struggle for fair compensation and equitable treatment of gig and platform workers. They feel that without consistent pricing rules, cab drivers would continue to suffer financial difficulties.
