Pop sensation and actress Selena Gomez is set to bring the iconic Linda Ronstadt to life in an upcoming biopic that promises to be a musical journey through the legendary singer's life. A report by Variety reveals that the project, currently in the developmental stage, has garnered attention with its choice of producers, including Linda Ronstadt's manager John Boylan and James Keach, the mind behind the 2019 documentary, 'Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice'.
Gomez, known for her versatility in both acting and singing, took to Instagram to tease her involvement in the project. Although the post has since been deleted, it featured a snapshot of Linda Ronstadt's 2013 memoir, "Simple Dreams." The excitement surrounding the biopic reached new heights when Linda Ronstadt's official social media account reposted Variety's report, affirming, "It all started with a simple dream."

The casting decision seems fitting, given the shared Mexican heritage of both Ronstadt and Gomez. The latter has been making waves with her acting prowess, earning two Golden Globe nominations for her role in Hulu's 'Only Murders in the Building' alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. Gomez first captured audiences' hearts on Disney's 'Wizards of Waverly Place' and has since established herself as a pop sensation with a string of chart-topping hits.
Linda Ronstadt, a true music legend, achieved critical and commercial success in the 1970s with albums like 'Heart Like a Wheel' and 'Simple Dreams'. Her remarkable career earned her 11 Grammy Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy. Ronstadt's influence on the country-rock genre is undeniable, as showcased in the 2019 documentary exploring her nearly five-decade career.
However, Ronstadt's retirement in 2011 due to progressive supranuclear palsy, initially misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease, added a poignant chapter to her story. The biopic aims to capture the highs and lows of her extraordinary journey.
Amid this exciting project, Selena Gomez recently announced a temporary break from social media to focus on "What really matters." This isn't the first time Gomez has stepped back from the online world, having taken a hiatus back in November 2023 during the Israel-Palestine conflict. Despite rumours circulating after the Golden Globes Awards ceremony, where she was speculated to be gossiping about Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, Gomez remains focused on her craft and the upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic.
