Hours after US Vice President Kamala Harris revealed her economic plan, which featured tax breaks for middle-class families, the presumptive Democratic nominee shared insights into her early life and how she handled financial challenges during that time.
In a post on the social media platform X, Harris reflected on the difficulties she and her family encountered, especially during her childhood when they were renters for most of the time.
In the post, which included a vintage photo of her mother, Harris stated, “I grew up in a middle-class household. For most of my childhood, we were renters. My mother saved for well over a decade to buy a home.”
Kamala Harris also highlighted her middle-class background, and one of the key points she frequently mentions in her public appearances is a lesser-known aspect of her history: her previous experience working at McDonald's.
“In college, I worked at McDonald’s to earn spending money. Some of the people I worked with were raising families on that paycheck. They worked second or even third jobs to pay rent and buy food,” Harris said.
Harris Vows To Create Opportunities For Middle Class If Elected President
Harris further claimed that, if elected President, she would make it a top priority to reduce costs and increase economic security for all Americans.
Harris' recent statement also emphasizes the contrast between herself and her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump. She highlights her background as a significant contrast to Trump, who was born into wealth and privilege, noting that it stands out against someone who inherited his fortune.
In a campaign rally on Friday, Harris highlighted the high cost of housing as a major obstacle to economic success.
She proposed offering up to USD 25,000 (2,063,750 INR) in down payment assistance for first-time home buyers and advocated for the development of three million affordable housing units for the middle class.
