The proposed new bus stand at Sootmil Square is set to be a historic project that will give a new direction to the city's transport system. Being developed on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, this bus stand will be seven stories high and equipped with state-of-the-art amenities.

The design prioritises passenger convenience alongside commercial and technical infrastructure. According to the map submitted to the Aligarh Development Authority (ADA), this terminal is being built on 42,000 square meters of land, keeping modern urban needs in mind. It is being modeled after the Alambagh bus stand in Lucknow.

Comprehensive Facilities Under One Roof

The most significant feature of this proposed terminal is that it will offer more than just bus operations; facilities for passenger accommodation, bus maintenance, and private vehicle parking will all be available within the same complex.

Hotel Accommodation: A hotel with over 20 rooms will be constructed within the premises for passengers, drivers, and visitors, providing significant relief to long-distance travelers.

Maintenance Workshop: A modern workshop will be established on-site for the repair and technical inspection of buses.

Parking Capacity: The complex will be able to accommodate approximately 400 buses simultaneously.

Modern Infrastructure: Two basements will be dedicated to mechanical and general parking. The building will also feature lifts, machine rooms, water tanks, and other modern commercial facilities. The government has assigned the responsibility for this project to Weltix Private Limited.

ADA Reviews Map; Department To Resolve Objections

The Aligarh Development Authority (ADA) has raised certain objections regarding the project map submitted by the Transport Department. Queries have been raised concerning land ownership, the No Objection Certificate (NOC), and the layout design. The map will be approved once these objections are resolved.

Vital Hub For Major Routes

The administration initially developed the bus stand at Sootmill Square on a temporary basis in 2018. Since then, no major development has taken place, and the area faces significant waterlogging issues during the rainy season. Despite these challenges, the stand is crucial for the city, serving routes to Noida, Greater Noida, Palwal, Faridabad, Gurugram, Moradabad, Bareilly, Budaun, Kasganj, Haridwar, Meerut and Saharanpur.

ADA Secretary Deepali Bhargava said, "We have received the application for the Sootmil bus stand map. It is being reviewed at the ADA level. The map will be approved soon in accordance with the rules."
