In a major infrastructure push, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the construction of the Chitrakoot Link Expressway, aimed at connecting the region to the Bundelkhand Expressway. The 15.17-km-long, four-lane expressway will be built at Rs 939.67 crore by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model.

The expressway will begin near Bhartakoot on the Varanasi-Banda road (km 267) and end at Ahmedganj village on the National Highway, providing seamless connectivity to Chitrakoot and the broader Bundelkhand region. Officials said the project will enhance tourism, generate employment, and promote economic and industrial development across the area.

Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' emphasised that earlier governments only made promises about Bundelkhand’s development, while the current administration has actively launched several transformative initiatives in the region.

With about 38 lakh man-days of employment expected to be generated, the project has already completed alignment and feasibility assessments. Firms MSV International and TTL are supporting UPEIDA in project development. Approximately 150 out of the required 167 hectares of land have been acquired across 13 villages in Karvi tehsil. Construction will begin once land acquisition is complete.

The detailed project report (DPR) is already prepared, and the state government sees this expressway as a catalyst for linking Chitrakoot with the state capital Lucknow and the National Capital Region.
