Despite significant investment by the state government to strengthen the healthcare system, a growing number of doctors and Community Health Officers (CHOs) in Ghaziabad are resigning from their posts. Over the past year, 31 doctors and 12 CHOs have left government service, officials confirmed.

Many have shifted to higher studies or private healthcare jobs, while others cite excessive workload related to surveys, monitoring, screening, special campaigns, and data entry under central and state health schemes as major reasons for quitting.

Officials acknowledge that although doctors receive salaries ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh per month and CHOs earn above Rs 50,000, staffing shortages continue to worsen.

Due to the ongoing resignations, several health centres are functioning without qualified medical professionals. In many facilities, pharmacists and staff nurses are handling primary care responsibilities, and in some cases, ward boys are assisting in treatment.

NHM Nodal Officer Dr RK Gupta said 31 doctors posted at 53 urban Primary Health Centres and 84 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs have resigned for personal and professional reasons. To address the shortfall, recruitment interviews are being conducted every two months. NRHM Nodal Officer Dr Ravindra Singh added that 12 CHOs have also left in the past year.
