Patients undergoing blood and urine tests at AIIMS Gorakhpur will soon receive their test reports directly on their registered mobile numbers, with a PDF copy also being shared via WhatsApp. The initiative, being implemented by the AIIMS administration, aims to improve patient convenience and reduce the need for physical report collection.
Under the new system, doctors will be able to view digital reports during consultations, enabling treatment to proceed even if patients do not carry a printed copy. Officials said the move will significantly reduce patient movement within the hospital and support AIIMS’ push towards a paperless healthcare system.
Since December 10, AIIMS doctors have taken over the responsibility of conducting blood and urine tests. As a result of the planning, patients have not faced any inconvenience. In addition, tests conducted by the Biochemistry Department, earlier costing up to Rs 200, are now being provided free of charge, offering financial relief to patients.
Earlier, when these tests were conducted by an external agency, patients had to visit Ayush Bhawan to collect their reports and then return to the OPD to show them to doctors, causing considerable inconvenience, especially for those without attendants. With the new arrangement, reports are now available digitally and at designated counters on the first and second floors of the OPD building.
AIIMS is also preparing to reduce the rates of diagnostic tests in other departments. A list of proposed rate reductions is being finalised and will be discussed with departmental heads before seeking approval from the Chairman.
Executive Director, AIIMS Gorakhpur, Major General (Retd) Dr Vibha Dutta, said receiving reports on mobile phones will be highly convenient for patients, ensure secure access to records, and further strengthen the institute’s move towards a paperless system.
