Gorakhpur Siliguri Expressway Update: The construction of the proposed Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, connecting Gorakhpur and Siliguri, will strengthen road connectivity in eastern India. The construction of this expressway will transform the Seemanchal region, leading to increased employment, trade, and travel.
The road, which will cost Rs 41,000 crore, will pass through Narpatganj, Forbesganj, Araria, Kursakanta, Sikti, and Palayasi blocks. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has released a list of villages along the final route for land acquisition.
This road will pass through Belbari, Pothia, Karhabari, and Sohadi villages in Sikti block. It will primarily be constructed south of Gujjan Chowk on the ABM Sikti Road. The expressway will make travel between Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal faster, safer, and more convenient.
This approximately 560-kilometre expressway will reduce the distance from Gorakhpur to Siliguri in 6-9 hours, compared to the current 12-15 hours. This will save fuel and reduce transportation costs.
This expressway will pass through many districts of Bihar, which will create new opportunities for trade, industry and employment at the local level.
According to experts, developing industrial corridors and logistics hubs along the road will provide farmers and small traders direct access to big markets.
Former minister and Sikati MLA Vijay Kumar Mandal says that all three blocks of Sikati assembly will benefit from the construction of this expressway.
