Goa Club Fire: The Luthra brothers, wanted in connection with the deadly Goa nightclub fire, are expected to arrive in India on Tuesday, with the Goa Police set to take them into custody at Delhi airport, news agency ANI reported. A massive fire broke out at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, on the intervening night of December 6-7. 25 people, including 5 tourists, died in the blaze. The club's owners Saurav and Gaurav Luthra fled to Thailand shortly after the incident.

Both the brothers are in the custody of the Thai police at present. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now accelerated efforts to deport them. The Indian Embassy in Bangkok is also in talks with local agencies.

CBI Reaches Phuket

CBI officials arrived in Phuket on Saturday to bring the Luthra brothers back to India. Their passports had been revoked by the central government. Consequently, the Indian Embassy has issued emergency certificates for their return.

When Will The Luthra Brothers Return To India?

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the investigation team has arrived in Thailand and preparations have begun to bring the Luthra brothers back. According to Goa DGP Alok Kumar, the Luthra brothers could return to India by next week.

How Is The Deportation Happening?

Last week, Thai police detained the Luthra brothers. Bangkok is obliged to send the Luthra brothers to India if the charges they face carry a minimum jail term of a year. This comes as per an extradition treaty signed by India and Thailand in 2013. The Luthra brothers at present are charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder which carries a five year sentence. This fulfills the criteria of the 2013 treaty.
