Under the Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme (CM GRID), the construction of a smart road has commenced in Golghar, Gorakhpur. The project was launched with the excavation of a drain near Kutchery Chauraha (crossing). 

This project will give a new identity to the Golghar area. While people will benefit from a smoother traffic system, the area's beauty will also be enhanced according to the new provisions for the smart road. Golghar is the city's main commercial and traffic hub.

The construction of a smart road here will not only improve the traffic system but also enhance the beauty of the area. Traders and residents hope that after the project's completion, Golghar will gain a new identity as a modern, safe, and well-organised road corridor. Under Phase-02 of the CM GRID scheme, this project will involve the rejuvenation of five major roads in and around Golghar. 

The Municipal Corporation has set a target to complete the construction of all these roads within 15 months. According to officials, the entire Phase-02 project will be completed by November 2026. Costing approximately Rs 53.68 crore, the project will involve the beautification of a total of 4.44 kilometres of road. 

It is not just about road construction; the road will be developed in line with the standards of smart and green infrastructure. Strong and attractive footpaths will be built on both sides of the road to provide safe and easy passage for pedestrians. 

Additionally, a modern street lighting system will be installed, which will ensure better illumination at night and reduce the likelihood of accidents. The smart streetlights will also help in conserving energy and protecting the environment. The project also includes provisions for organised parking, which is expected to significantly alleviate the frequent traffic jams and haphazard parking issues in the Golghar area.

“The construction work will be carried out in a phased manner to cause minimal inconvenience to the general public and traders. The excavation of drains and underground work will be completed first, followed by the construction of the road surface, footpaths, and other facilities. Special arrangements for traffic diversion and safety will be made during the construction period,” said Amit Kumar Sharma, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation.
