Gorakhpur: Licenses Of 9 Water Factories Suspended For Selling Impure Water; Check Brand List

The Food Safety Department in Gorakhpur has suspended the licences of nine packaged water factories for failing to provide pure water. An inspection on January 10-11 found a lack of chemical testing, faulty RO machines, poor hygiene, and no medical fitness certificates for staff. Production and sales are now halted until improvements are made.

The Food Safety Department has suspended the licences of nine factories in Gorakhpur for failing to provide pure water. These factories packed and sold water. Previously, the licence of a water plant in Barhalganj had been suspended after coliform bacteria was found in bottled water in Mau. On the instructions of Food Safety Commissioner Roshan Jacob, a team from the Food Safety Department inspected factories packing and selling water in the district on January 10 and 11.

Immediate Ban On Production And Sales

Assistant Commissioner Food, Dr Sudhir Kumar Singh, stated that the licences have been suspended with immediate effect and a complete ban has been placed on production and sales until improvements are made.

Deficiencies Found In Inspection

Lack of chemical and microbiological testing of water.

- Malfunctioning or non-functional ozonation and reverse osmosis (RO) machines.

- Absence of pest control systems and a severe lack of cleanliness.

- Lack of medical fitness certificates for employees.

Warning Of Strict Legal Action

Designated Officer of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Dr Sudhir Kumar Singh said that if any unit undertakes manufacturing or sales without rectifying the deficiencies and without the suspension being revoked, strict legal action will be taken against them under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
